Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the dawn 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 Nay! But you treat not the orphans with kindness and generosity (i.e. you neither treat them well, nor give them their exact right of inheritance)! 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
