The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. 4 He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he approached and descended 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
