In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
You, who have wrapped yourself up with a mantle, 1 rise (to pray) the night except a little; 2 half the night, or a little less 3 and recite the Quran in a distinct tone; 4 Indeed We shall soon ordain a heavy responsibility upon you. 5 Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech. 6 Verily there is for thee by day occupation prolonged. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with (exclusive) devotion. 8 Lord of the east and the west! No God is there but He! Wherefore take Him for thy trustee. 9 Bear with patience what they say, and gracefully come away from them. 10 Leave Me to those who cry lies, those prosperous ones, and respite them a little, 11 Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire, 12 choking food and a painful punishment. 13 On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth. 14 Surely We have sent unto you a Messenger as a witness over you, even as We sent to Pharaoh a Messenger, 15 In response Firaun disobeyed the Noble Messenger, so We seized him with a severe seizure. 16 Then how shall ye, if ye deny (Allah), guard yourselves against a Day that will make children hoary-headed?- 17 The very heaven being then rent asunder. His promise is to be fulfilled. 18 Surely this is a reminder, then let him, who will take the way to his Lord. 19
