۞ Before this We gave Abraham his virtue, for We knew him. 51 When he asked his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so devoted?" 52 They said, "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 Said he: "Indeed, you and your forefathers have obviously gone astray!" 54 They said, “Have you brought the Truth to us, or are you just making fun?” 55 He answered: "Nay, but your [true] Sustainer is the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth - He who has brought them into being: and I am one of those who bear witness to this [truth]!" 56 By Allah, I shall certainly carry out my plan against your gods after you are gone." 57 So he broke them to pieces, (all) except the biggest of them, that they might turn to it. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? He must indeed be some man of impiety!" 59 They said, "We heard a youth talk of them: He is called Abraham." 60 They said: bring him then before the eyes of the people, haply they may bear witness. 61 They said: art thou the one who hath wrought this unto our gods, O Ibrahim? 62 He said: Surely (some doer) has done it; the chief of them is this, therefore ask them, if they can speak. 63 Then gathered they apart and said: Lo! ye yourselves are the wrong-doers. 64 And they were utterly confounded, and they said: Well thou knowest that these speak not. 65 Said [Abraham]: "Do you then worship, instead of God, something that cannot benefit you in any way, nor harm you? 66 Fie on you and those you worship besides God! Will you not understand?" 67 They said: "Burn him and help your aliha (gods), if you will be doing." 68 We said: O fire! be a comfort and peace to Ibrahim; 69 And they intended to do him an evil, but We made them the worst losers. 70 So We delivered him and Lot, and brought them to the land We had blessed for all the people. 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in superfluity, and every one made We righteous 72 And We made them leaders guiding by Our command. And We inspired to them the doing of good deeds, establishment of prayer, and giving of zakah; and they were worshippers of Us. 73 And unto Lot we gave judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him from the community that did abominations. Lo! they were folk of evil, lewd. 74 We admitted him to Our Mercy, he was among the righteous. 75
