Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Ha. Mim. 1 By the Clear Book. 2 Lo! We revealed it on a blessed night - Lo! We are ever warning - 3 In the (Night) is made distinct every affair of wisdom, 4 by Our command. Verily, We were set to send a Messenger 5 as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, 6 He is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if only you would have strong faith. 7 there is no deity save Him: It is He who gives both life and death -- He is your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers, 8 Rather they are in doubt, playing. 9 Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. 10 Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them, 13 but then they turned away from him, saying: 'He is tutored, mad' 14 We now remove the punishment for some days – so you will again commit the same. 15 On the day when We will seize (them) with the most violent seizing; surely We will inflict retribution. 16 ۞ We had tried the people of Pharaoh before them. A respected prophet had come to them (saying): 17 "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you. 18 and do not exalt yourselves in defiance of Allah. I have come to you with a clear authority (as a Messenger). 19 I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death. 20 And if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone. 21 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “These are a guilty nation!” 22 "Journey by night with My devotees," (it was said); "you will certainly be pursued. 23 And leave the sea behind you as calm as ever. Surely they are an army that is doomed to be drowned.” 24 How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind, 25 And fields and stately mansions, 26 and good things in which they took delight. 27 Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. 28 and neither sky nor earth shed tears over them, nor were they allowed a respite. 29
