Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn 1 And by ten nights, 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
