[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: fear ye not? 124 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 125 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 126 I ask no recompense of you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 127 "Do you build useless monuments on every mountain 128 and erect castles hoping that you will live forever. 129 “And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?” 130 So fear God, and obey me; 131 Have fear of Him Who has provided you with all the (good) things you know; 132 "Freely has He bestowed on you cattle and sons,- 133 And orchards and springs. 134 Surely I fear for you the chastisement of a grievous day 135 They replied: 'It is the same to us whether you admonish or whether you are not one of the admonishers. 136 This is naught but a custom of the ancients; 137 "And we are not the ones to receive Pains and Penalties!" 138 So they belied him, and We destroyed them. Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Surely your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 140
