The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And your garments do purify, 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 and children living in his presence, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he thought; 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
