He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And We made corn grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
