The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the great event, 2 About which they have been differing? 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And made sleep for you to rest, 9 made the night as a covering, 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 and sent down abundant water from the clouds 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 and heaven is opened, and become gates, 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 In it shall they remain for a long time. 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 So taste you (the results of your evil actions); no increase shall We give you, except in torment. 30
