And the eminent among his people who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter while We had given them luxury in the worldly life said, "This is not but a man like yourselves. He eats of that from which you eat and drinks of what you drink. 33 If ye were to obey a mortal like yourselves, then, lo! ye surely would be losers. 34 Does he promise you that when you are dead and are reduced to dust and bones, you will be brought forth to life? 35 ۞ Far-fetched, far-fetched indeed is what you are promised! 36 There is no other life than the life of the world. We shall live here and here shall we die; and we are not going to be raised again. 37 "He is only a man who has invented a lie against Allah, but we are not going to believe in him." 38 (The apostle prayed): "O Lord, deliver me, for they accuse me of lies." 39 He replied: 'Before long, by the morning, they shall be remorseful' 40 So the shriek seized them in truth, and We made them as [plant] stubble. Then away with the wrongdoing people. 41 Then, after them, We created other generations. 42 Every nation has an appointed life span. 43 Then We sent Our apostles one after another; whenever there came to a people their apostle, they called him a liar, so We made some of them follow others and We made them stories; so away with a people who do not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron, with Our Signs and authority manifest, 45 Unto Fir'awn and his chiefs, but they grew stiff-necked, and they were a people self-exalting. 46 and they said, 'What, shall we believe two mortals like ourselves, whose people are our servants?' 47 So they denied them, and became of those who were destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book that people might be guided by it. 49 We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign and gave them shelter on a peaceful hillside watered by a fresh spring. 50
