S (Saad)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Suad, I swear by the Quran, full of admonition. 1 Nay, but the unbelievers are steeped in arrogance and stubborn defiance. 2 How many a generation We have destroyed before them, and they cried out when there was no longer time for escape! 3 They were surprised that one of them had come to them as warner; and the unbelievers said: "He is a deceiving sorcerer. 4 They say, "Has he condemned all other gods but One? This is certainly strange". 5 And their leading chiefs said: "Remain attached to your gods. There is surely some motive behind it. 6 We heard not thereof in the later faith; this is naught but an invention. 7 Was the message sent only to him out of all of us?" In fact, they doubt My warning; in fact, they have not yet tasted My punishment. 8 Or do they [think that they] own the treasures of thy Sustainer's grace - [the grace] of the Almighty, the Giver of Gifts? 9 Have they control over heavens and earth and whatever [lies] between them? Then let them climb up to heaven by ropes: 10 [They are but] soldiers [who will be] defeated there among the companies [of disbelievers]. 11 Before them (were many who) belied Messengers, the people of Nuh (Noah); and 'Ad; and Fir'aun (Pharaoh) the man of stakes (with which he used to punish the people), 12 And (the tribe of) Thamud, and the folk of Lot, and the dwellers in the wood: these were the factions. 13 There was not one of them but treated their messengers as liars, so My punishment rightly overtook them: 14
