He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 You pay full attention, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
