The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Woe to the stinters; 1 those who, when they are to receive their due from [other] people, demand that it be given in full 2 but when they measure or weigh, give less. 3 Do not these think that they shall be raised again 4 To be raised for a Great Day? 5 when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe? 6 Indeed, the record of the disbelievers is in the lowest place, the Sijjeen. 7 And what will make you know what Sijjin is? 8 A book inscribed. 9 Ah the woe that day for those who deny, 10 Who deny the Day of Recompense. 11 None denies it but the sinful transgressors. 12 When our signs are recited to him, he says, 'Fairy-tales of the ancients!' 13 Not at all - but rather their earnings have heaped rust upon their hearts. 14 No indeed, on that Day they shall be veiled from their Lord. 15 Then most surely they shall enter the burning fire. 16 Then, it will be said to them: "This is what you used to deny!" 17 Nay! Verily, the Record (writing of the deeds) of Al-Abrar (the pious who fear Allah and avoid evil), is (preserved) in 'Illiyyun. 18 Would that you knew what Illiyin is! 19 A Register inscribed. 20 Attested by those who are brought near (unto their Lord). 21 Indeed the virtuous are in serenity. 22 On couches, gazing, 23 upon their faces thou wilt see the brightness of bliss. 24 They will be given pure wine to drink, which is kept preserved, sealed. 25 its seal is musk, for this let the competitors compete; 26 Blended with the water of Tasnim, 27 The spring from which drink the ones close to Allah. 28 Verily those who have sinned were wont at those who had believed to laugh, 29 and winked at one another as they passed them by. 30 and when they returned to their people they returned blithely, 31 and when they saw them, they said [scornfully], "These men have surely gone astray," 32 But they had not been sent as guardians over them. 33 So this day it is the believers who laugh at the disbelievers. 34 [for, resting in paradise] on couches, they will look on [and say to themselves]: 35 Have the disbelievers [not] been rewarded [this Day] for what they used to do? 36
