Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 and the even and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. 26 O the contented soul! 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 Join My servants. 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
