The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 And by the begetter (i.e. Adam) and that which he begot (i.e. his progeny); 3 We created the human in fatigue. 4 Does he think that no one can overpower him? 5 He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 Have We not shown him the ways of good and evil? 10 Yet he has not scaled the height. 11 How will you comprehend what the Steep ascent is? -- 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 or the feeding in times of famine 14 An orphan near of kin, 15 or some needy person in distress, 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 As for those who disbelieve in Our revelations, they are the people of the left 19 with the Fire closed above them. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
