The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 No! [But] indeed, man transgresses 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)! 18 Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abu Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allah! ۩ 19
