Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Ha, Meem. 1 I swear by the illustrious Book. 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments. 4 As commands from Us. It is indeed We who send (messengers), 5 A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you are certain (of your faith). 7 There is no god but He. He quickeneth and causeth to die: your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs. 9 Then watch thou for the Day that the sky will bring forth a kind of smoke (or mist) plainly visible, 10 Which will envelop the people; this is a painful punishment. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). 15 The Day when We shall seize them with a mighty seizing, that will be the Day on which We shall inflict upon you full retribution. 16 ۞ And verily We tried before them Pharaoh's folk, when there came unto them a noble messenger, 17 "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you. 18 Do not consider yourselves above God. I shall show you a manifest authority (in support of my truthfulness). 19 I have sought refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me [to death]. 20 "If ye believe me not, at least keep yourselves away from me." 21 (But they were aggressive:) then he cried to his Lord: "These are indeed a people given to sin." 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." 24 How many were the gardens and springs they left behind, 25 and sown fields and splendid mansions, 26 And pleasant things wherein they took delight! 27 Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. 28 And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). 29
