He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 So you are after him! 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 noble and purified. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing and joyous 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
