Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 laboring, wornout, 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 5 There is no food for them except thorns of fire. 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 in a Garden on high, 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and carpets outspread. 16 Look they not at the camels, how they are created? 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 thou art not charged to oversee them. 22 But whosoever will turn back and disbelieve 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Verily unto Us is their return. 25 Then verily on Us is their reckoning. 26
