Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 and the even and the odd, 3 and by the passing night, 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 enter My Paradise! 30
