The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount; 1 and the Book inscribed 2 in an exposed parchment 3 by the much-visited House, 4 Consider the vault [of heaven] raised high! 5 Consider the surf-swollen sea! 6 verily your Lord's chastisement shall come to pass, 7 There is none that can ward it off. 8 [It will come to pass] on the Day when the skies will be convulsed in [a great] convulsion, 9 The mountains move and fly away, 10 On that Day woe to those who belied 11 and who indulged in false disputes against (God's revelations). 12 the day when they shall be pitched into the fire of Gehenna: 13 “This is the fire, which you used to deny!” 14 Is this, then, any feat of magic or are you unable to see? 15 Enter into it, then bear (it) patiently, or do not bear (it) patiently, it is the same to you; you shall be requited only (for) what you did. 16 Surely the godfearing shall be in gardens and bliss, 17 rejoicing in all that their Sustainer will have granted them: for their Sustainer will have warded off from them all suffering through the blazing fire. 18 (They will be told): “Eat and drink to your hearts' content as a reward for your deeds.” 19 reclining on couches [of happiness] ranged in rows!" And [in that paradise] We shall mate them with companions pure, most beautiful of eye. 20 And those who believe and whose offspring follow them in Faith, to them shall We join their offspring, and We shall not decrease the reward of their deeds in anything. Every person is a pledge for that which he has earned. 21 And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 while they pass therein a cup one to another wherein is no idle talk, no cause of sin, 23 ۞ There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected. 24 And some of them draw near to others, questioning. 25 Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious; 26 "But Allah has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of the Fire. 27 we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' 28
