In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you who have wrapped up in your garments! 1 Stand up for worship during the night, except for some part of it. 2 (Worship Him) for more or less than half of the night 3 Or add to it, and recite the Qur'an with measured recitation. 4 Soon shall We send down to thee a weighty Message. 5 Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech. 6 You are indeed much occupied during the day with the affairs of the world. 7 But keep in remembrance the name of thy Lord and devote thyself to Him whole-heartedly. 8 The Lord of the East and the West-- there is no god but He-- therefore take Him for a protector. 9 And bear with patience what they utter, and part from them with a fair leave-taking. 10 Leave it to Me to deal with the deniers, who live a life of comfort, and bear with them a little longer. 11 We have heavy fetters and a blazing Fire in store for them; 12 And food which choketh (the partaker), and a painful doom 13 On the Day when the earth with all its mountains quake and the mountains become heaps of shifting sand. 14 BEHOLD, [O men,] We have sent unto you an apostle who shall bear witness to the truth before you, even as We sent an apostle unto Pharaoh: 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 How then, if ye disbelieve, shall ye escape, on a Day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 The Day when the heavens will be rent asunder and God's promise shall be fulfilled. 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
