The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise, and warn, 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 thy robes purify 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 And children present [with him] 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
