The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Then, no! They are going to know. 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And made sleep for you to rest, 9 And made the night a cover. 10 and We appointed day for a livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 and We have set therein a glowing lamp. 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water. 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown – you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 for the insolent a resort, 22 They will abide therein for ages. 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
