Certainly Aaron had said to them even before (the return of Moses): "My people, you were fallen into error because of the calf. Surely your Lord is Most Compassionate; so follow me and obey my command." 90 They said, "We shall continue worshipping the calf until Moses comes back." 91 Then Moses asked Aaron, "What made you not follow me when you saw them in error? 92 Did you disobey my orders?" 93 "O son of my mother," (Aaron cried), do not pull me by my beard or my hair! I was really afraid you may say that I had created a rift among the children of Israel, and did not pay heed to your command." 94 Moses said: "What, then, is your case, O Samiri?" 95 He replied, "I had the skill (of carving) which they did not have. I followed some of the Messengers's (Moses) tradition, but I then ignored it. Thus, my soul prompted me (to carve a golden calf with an artificial hollow sound). 96 Musa (Moses) said: "Then go away! And verily, your (punishment) in this life will be that you will say: "Touch me not (i.e. you will live alone exiled away from mankind); and verily (for a future torment), you have a promise that will not fail. And look at your ilah (god), to which you have been devoted. We will certainly burn it, and scatter its particles in the sea." 97 Your God is only One, Allah. There is no god, except He, alone. His knowledge encompasses all things. 98 And so We narrate to you the stories of the past, and We have given you a remembrance from Us. 99 Whosoever turns away from it, upon the Day of Resurrection He shall bear a fardel, 100 They will abide in this (state): and grievous will the burden be to them on that Day,- 101 The Day the Horn will be blown. And We will gather the criminals, that Day, blue-eyed. 102 They will murmur among themselves, "You remained not but ten [days in the world]." 103 We know very well what they will say, when the best among them in knowledge and wisdom will say: "You stayed no longer than a day!" 104
