۞ We had earlier given Abraham true direction, for We knew him well. 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these images, to which you are devoted?" 52 They answered: "We found our forefathers worshipping them." 53 Abraham said, "Indeed, you and your fathers have been clearly misguided." 54 They said: Bringest thou unto us the truth, or art thou some jester? 55 He said: "Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth which He created and to that I bear witness before you. 56 And by Allah I shall surely devise a plot against your idols after ye turned away backward. 57 So he made them into fragments, except a large one among them, that they might return to it [and question]. 58 (When they saw the idols in this state) they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Surely he is one of the wrong-doers." 59 They said, "We heard a young man mention them who is called Abraham." 60 They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people that they may testify." 61 'Abraham' they said, 'was it you who did this to our gods' 62 Said he, “Rather, their chief may have done it; so question them, if they can speak.” 63 Thereupon they realized their own foolishness and said, "We ourselves are wrong-doers". 64 Then their minds were turned upside down, and they said: "You know well that they do not speak." 65 He said, "Do you, instead of God, worship things that can neither harm nor benefit you?" 66 "Fie upon you, and upon the things that ye worship besides Allah! Have ye no sense?".. 67 They said: "Burn him and help your aliha (gods), if you will be doing." 68 We (Allah) said: "O fire! Be you coolness and safety for Ibrahim (Abraham)!" 69 And they wished to set a snare for him, but We made them the greater losers. 70 We took Abraham and Lot safely to the land in which We had sent blessings to the worlds. 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in addition, and all [of them] We made righteous. 72 We appointed them as leaders to guide the people through Our command and sent them revelation to strive for good deeds, worship their Lord, and pay religious tax. Both of them were Our worshipping servants. 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge and delivered him from the city which practiced abomination. They were indeed a wicked people. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy; indeed he is among those who deserve Our proximity. 75
