Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Ha Mim. 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 surely We sent it down on a blessed night, We have always sent warnings, 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 A command from Us; surely We are the senders (of apostles), 5 as a mercy (for the human being) from your Lord. Your Lord is All-hearing and All-knowing. 6 He is the Lord of heaven and earth and all that is between them, if only you would really believe, 7 There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 Lo! We withdraw the torment a little. Lo! ye return (to disbelief). 15 On the Day when We shall seize you with the greatest grasp. Verily, We will exact retribution. 16 ۞ Already before them We tried the people of Pharaoh, and a noble Messenger came unto them, 17 saying, 'Deliver to me God's servants; I am for you a faithful Messenger, 18 And saying exalt not yourselves against Allah; verily I have come unto you with an authority manifest. 19 I seek protection from my Lord and your Lord from your decision of stoning me. 20 And if you do not believe me, then leave me' 21 And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people. 22 So go forth with My servants by night; surely you will be pursued: 23 And leave the sea behind at rest, for lo! they are a drowned host. 24 How many gardens and water-springs they left behind! 25 sown fields, and how noble a station, 26 And favours amongst which they were rejoicing! 27 Thus it was; and We made another people inherit all that. 28 and neither sky nor earth shed tears over them, nor were they allowed a respite. 29
