And the chieftains of his folk, who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and whom We had made soft in the life of the world, said: This is only a mortal like you, who eateth of that whereof ye eat and drinketh of that ye drink. 33 And were ye to obey a human being like you, ye are forthwith to be losers. 34 Does he give you a promise that when you are dead and turned to dust and bones, you will be raised to life again? 35 ۞ Away! away with that wherewith ye are promised; 36 There exists only our present life: we die and we live [but once], and shall never be raised up again. 37 He is just a man who invents a lie about God; we cannot believe in him." 38 The messenger said, "My Lord, help me, for they have rejected me." 39 God said, "Before long they will be filled with regret." 40 So they were rightly seized by a mighty blast; and We turned them into mouldy rubbish: A good riddance of the wicked people! 41 After them We produced other generations 42 [for,] no community can ever forestall [the end of] its term - and neither can they delay [its coming]. 43 Then We sent Our Messengers in succession. Whenever a Messenger came to his people they rejected him, calling him a liar. Thereupon, We made each people to follow the other (to its doom), reducing them to mere tales (of the past). Scourged be the people who do not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and clear authority 45 To Pharaoh and his establishment, but they were arrogant and were a haughty people. 46 They said, "Should we believe two men like ourselves while their people are for us in servitude?" 47 So they denied them – therefore became of those who were destroyed. 48 We gave Moses the Book so that they might be guided. 49 and We made Mary's son, and his mother, to be a sign, and gave them refuge upon a height, where was a hollow and a spring: 50
