The people of 'Ad accused the messengers of lies. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: fear ye not? 124 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 125 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 126 I seek of you no reward for this; my reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 127 You construct monuments on every hill in vain, 128 And take ye for yourselves castles that haply ye may abide. 129 "And when ye exert your strong hand, do ye do it like men of absolute power? 130 "Be, then, conscious of God and pay heed unto me: 131 Keep your duty toward Him Who hath aided you with (the good things) that ye know, 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 'Indeed, I fear for you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 135 [But] they answered. "It is all one to us whether thou preachest [something new] or art not of those who [like to] preach. 136 That is nothing but a habit of the ancients, 137 “And we will not be punished.” 138 And they belied him; so We destroyed them. Verily herein is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
