Or has He taken, out of what He has created, daughters and chosen you for [having] sons? 16 And when one of them is given news of that of which he sets up as a likeness for the Beneficent Allah, his face becomes black and he is full of rage. 17 What! that which is made in ornaments and which in contention is unable to make plain speech! 18 And they make into females angels who themselves serve Allah. Did they witness their creation? Their evidence will be recorded, and they will be called to account! 19 And they say, “If the Most Gracious had willed, we would not have worshipped them!” They do not know its truth at all; they only make guesses. 20 Or have We given them a book before the Qur'an to which they are adhering? 21 In fact they say: "We found our fathers following a certain way, and are guided by their footprints." 22 And thus it is: whenever We sent any warner to a city its affluent ones said: “We found our forefathers on a way and we continue to follow in their footsteps.” 23 ۞ (And the warner) said: What! Even though I bring you better guidance than that ye found your fathers following? They answered: Lo! in what ye bring we are disbelievers. 24 Wherefore We took revenge on them. Behold, then how hath been the end of the beliers? 25
