The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit mount up, in a day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 Wherefore be thou patient with a becoming patience. 5 behold, men look upon that [reckoning] as something far away 6 And We behold it nigh. 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the sky will become like molten brass, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And no friend will ask after a friend, 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 His wife and his brother, 12 And his kindred who sheltered him, 13 And all, all that is on earth,- so it could deliver him: 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 Flaying off the scalp-skin. 16 It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 Fretful when evil befalleth him 20 but when good comes upon him, he is grudging 21 except those that pray, 22 and continue at their prayers, 23 those in whose wealth is a right known 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 And those who hold to the truth of the Day of Judgment; 26 and who stand in dread of their Sustainer's chastisement 27 Indeed the punishment of their Lord is not a thing to be unafraid of! 28 And those who guard their private parts 29 except in regard to their spouses and those whom their right hands possess, for in regard to them they are not reproachable, 30 But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors;- 31 And those who keep their trusts and covenants; 32 Who uphold their testimonies, 33 and who are constant in their prayers. 34 It is these who will be honoured in Gardens. 35
