By the moon, 32 and the night when it retreats 33 And the daybreak when it shines; 34 Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents) 35 it is a warning to man, 36 a warning to everyone of you whether he would like to come forward or lag behind. 37 Every soul is held in pledge against its own deeds, 38 save the Companions of the Right; 39 In Gardens, they seek answers, 40 And (ask) of the Sinners: 41 [And asking them], "What put you into Saqar?" 42 They will reply, "We did not pray, 43 "Nor were we of those who fed the indigent; 44 And we have been wading with the waders. 45 and we denied the Day of Judgement 46 Till death overtook us. 47 The intercession of their intercessors shall not benefit them. 48 What aileth them, therefore, that they are from the admonition turning away? 49 As if they were asses taking fright 50 Fleeing from a hunter, or a lion, or a beast of prey. 51 Rather, every person among them desires that he would be given scriptures spread about. 52 No indeed; but they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Nay, verily, this is an admonition 54 So whosoever will (let him read it), and receive admonition (from it)! 55 But they will not remember except as God wills: He is worthy to be feared, and He is worthy of forgiving 56
