He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And olives and palms 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
