The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Rise up and warn! 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 thy robes purify 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 it will be a hard day 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
