In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Sad. I swear by the Quran, which is full of reminders of God, (that you are a Messenger). 1 nay, but the unbelievers glory in their schism. 2 How many ancient generations did We destroy? (On facing Our torment) they cried out for help, but it was too late for them to escape. 3 They wondered that a warner had come to them from among themselves, and the deniers of the Truth said: “This is a sorcerer, and a big liar. 4 Has he made the gods one single God? This is truly astounding.” 5 And the eminent among them went forth, [saying], "Continue, and be patient over [the defense of] your gods. Indeed, this is a thing intended. 6 We never heard of it in the former faith. It is surely a fabrication. 7 What! Upon him alone from among all of us should a [divine] reminder have been bestowed from on high?" Nay, but it is My Own reminder that they distrust! Nay, they have not yet tasted the suffering which I do impose! 8 Or, are with them the treasures of the mercy of thy Lord, the Bestower? 9 Do they own the heavens and the earth and all that is between them? Let them try on their own to block (the ways of heavens so that Our revelations cannot come to you). 10 The army is defeated as (were) the confederates. 11 The folk of Noah before them denied (their messenger) and (so did the tribe of) A'ad, and Pharaoh firmly planted, 12 and the tribe of Thamud, and the people of Lot, and the dwellers of the Wood -- these were the confederates. 13 Each of them gave the lie to Messengers and My decree of chastisement came upon them. 14
