Al-Inshiqaaq
The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
25 verses, revealed in Mecca after Shattering (Al-Infitaar) before The Romans (Al-Room)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ WHEN THE SKY is split asunder, 1 And obeys its Lord and it must. 2 And when the earth has been extended 3 and throws out of itself all that it contains 4 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must: 5 Thou, verily, O man, art working toward thy Lord a work which thou wilt meet (in His presence). 6 And he who is given his ledger in his right hand 7 shall be called to an easy accounting, 8 and will return rejoicing to his family. 9 But he who is given his ledger from behind his back 10 he will in time pray for utter destruction: 11 and will enter the Blazing Fire. 12 He once lived among his family joyfully; 13 thinking he would never revert (to Us). 14 Nay, but lo! his Lord is ever looking on him! 15 No! I swear by the twilight 16 And by oath of the night and all that gathers in it. 17 And by oath of the moon when it is full. 18 That ye shall journey on from plane to plane. 19 So, what is the matter with them that they do not believe, 20 Why, when the Quran is recited to them, do they not prostrate themselves? ۩ 21 Nay! those who disbelieve give the lie to the truth. 22 Whereas Allah knoweth best that which they cherish. 23 So give them news of painful punishment, 24 except those that believe, and do righteous deeds -- theirs shall be a wage unfailing. 25
