Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Dawn, 1 And ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 All of them committed excesses in their lands, 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
