[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 125 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 126 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 127 Do you build monuments on every high place in vanity, 128 and erect huge palaces as though you will live for ever, 129 And whenever you apply force become tyrannical. 130 So fear you God, and obey you me; 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 Gave you increase of cattle and sons, 133 gardens and fountains. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day." 135 They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach; 136 This is naught but a custom of the ancients; 137 and we shall never be punished' 138 And they belied him; so We destroyed them. Verily herein is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 140
