The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 And the Book written 2 In parchment unrolled. 3 Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! 4 The roof raised high, 5 And the sea set aflame. 6 Verily the torment of thine Lord is sure to befalls 7 there is none who could avert it. 8 On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion 9 and the mountains shall violently fly about. 10 Then woe that Day to the beliers; 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 The Day when they will be pushed down by force to the Fire of Hell, with a horrible, forceful pushing. 13 "This is the fire which you were wont to call a lie! 14 "Is this then a fake, or is it ye that do not see? 15 [Enter to] burn therein; then be patient or impatient - it is all the same for you. You are only being recompensed [for] what you used to do." 16 [But,] verily, the God-conscious will find themselves [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 rejoicing in all that their Sustainer will have granted them: for their Sustainer will have warded off from them all suffering through the blazing fire. 18 (To them will be said:) "Eat and drink ye, with profit and health, because of your (good) deeds." 19 reclining on couches arranged in rows. And We shall wed them to fair maidens with large beautiful eyes. 20 We shall unite the believers with those descendants of theirs who followed them in their faith, and shall not deny them any part of the reward for their good deeds. Every person is pledged to what he did. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with all kinds of fruit and meat, whatever they may desire. 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ And there will go round on them youths appointed to attend them as though they were pearls hidden. 24 They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. 25 Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious; 26 and God was gracious to us, and guarded us against the chastisement of the burning wind; 27 We used to pray to Him erstwhile; He is the just and merciful. 28
