The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 arise and warn, 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 And pollution shun. 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And children present [with him] 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
