Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Nay, I swear by this city - 1 this land in which thou art free to dwell 2 And by the begetter (i.e. Adam) and that which he begot (i.e. his progeny); 3 We created the human in fatigue. 4 Does man think that no one will ever have power over him? 5 He says (boastfully): "I have wasted wealth in abundance!" 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 Have We not shown him the ways of good and evil? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 or the feeding in times of famine 14 of an orphaned relative 15 or some needy person in distress, 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 Those who do so are the people of the right hand, 18 But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left, 19 The Fire will vault them over. 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
