The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 when their brother Hud said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 124 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 What, you build a monument on every hill merely for fun 128 "And do ye get for yourselves fine buildings in the hope of living therein (for ever)? 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants. 130 "Now fear Allah, and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has bestowed on you what you know, 132 amply provided you with flocks, and children, 133 gardens and fountains. 134 "Truly I fear for you the Penalty of a Great Day." 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether thou admonish us or be not among (our) admonishers! 136 This [religion of ours] is none other than that to which our forebears clung, 137 And we are not going to be tormented. 138 So they cried him lies; then We destroyed them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Surely your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 140
