Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O the One Wrapped in piety! (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) 1 Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - 2 Half of it, or a little less than that, 3 and recite the Quran in a distinct tone; 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 Verily, the rising by night (for Tahajjud prayer) is very hard and most potent and good for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (understanding) the Word (of Allah). 6 Verily there is for thee by day occupation prolonged. 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 The Sustainer of the east and the west [is He]: there is no deity save Him: hence, ascribe to Him alone the power to determine thy fate, 9 And bear thou patiently what they say, and forsake them graciously. 10 And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. 11 Surely with Us are heavy fetters and a flaming fire, 12 And food that will stick in the throat, and painful torment 13 On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth. 14 We have indeed sent a Noble Messenger towards you, a present witness over you – the way We had sent a Noble Messenger towards Firaun. 15 But the Pharaoh disobeyed the apostle; so We seized him with a grievous punishment. 16 Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? 17 Whereby heaven shall be split, and its promise shall be performed. 18 Surely this is a reminder, then let him, who will take the way to his Lord. 19
