He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 To him you give attention. 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
