Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 On that Day faces shall be humbled, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire. 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 Therein will be a bubbling spring: 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 well arranged goblets, 14 and cushions arrayed 15 and well spread carpets. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And at the earth - how it is spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 thou art not charged to oversee them. 22 However, as for him who turns away, being bent on denying the truth, 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
