The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
CONSIDER the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And the day resplendent 2 and by Him Who created the male and the female: 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 And rejects goodness, 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
True are the words of God the Almighty.
