The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER the heavens and that which comes in the night! 1 And what will make you know what the comer by night is? 2 It is the star shining brightly. 3 No soul is there but hath over it a watcher. 4 So man must consider from what he has been created. 5 He was created of a gushing fluid, 6 issuing from between the loins [of man] and the pelvic arch [of woman]. 7 Verily, (Allah) is Able to bring him back (to life)! 8 On the Day when man's deepest secrets shall be put to the test 9 Then he shall have no power nor any helper. 10 By the Firmament which returns (in its round), 11 And the earth which opens up (with verdure), 12 surely it is a decisive word; 13 And it is not a thing for amusement. 14 Indeed the disbelievers carry out their evil schemes. 15 And I secretly plan. 16 So give a respite to the disbelievers. Deal you gently with them for a while. 17
