The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 Recall when their brother Salih said to them: "Have you no fear?" 142 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in this, 146 in the midst of gardens and fountains, 147 “And fields and palm-trees, with delicate tendrils?” 148 “And you carve out dwellings in the mountains, with skill?” 149 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me; 150 Do not follow those who are extravagant, 151 those who spread corruption in the land instead of putting things right." 152 They said: "You are only of those bewitched! 153 You are a mere mortal like us. Show us a miracle if you are telling the Truth". 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel: she has a right of watering, and ye have a right of watering, (severally) on a day appointed. 155 "Touch her not with harm, lest the Penalty of a Great Day seize you." 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 For they were seized by the torment. Verily there was a sign in this, but most of them did not believe. 158 Your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 159
