Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 And the ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 Join My servants. 29 enter My Paradise! 30
